Viral Infections

I hope that everyone had a lovely Christmas.

Now that we are into the New Year, unfortunately the season is upon us for viral infections, and non-specific virial infections can cause problems for children in a number of ways, in terms of their
gut and stomach. Non-specific effects such as poor fluid intake during temperature-related illnesses can lead to constipation, and fluids should be kept up during these illnesses. Diarrhoea obviously can be a feature of gastro-enteritic viral infections and can lead to secondary sensitisation of the gut to various proteins, especially dairy. This is not to be confused with lactose intolerance, which can happen after diarrhoea.
