I am absolutely delighted to inform you that there is a new innovative button battery being made by Energiser which has a titanium coating. This will prevent button battery injury and the scourge of this leading to childhood death and serious injury many times each year, in many countries and this should be a thing of the past if this button battery becomes the norm, which it should by legislation.

It is being introduced into the European market shortly and of course there will be a lag phase before the old batteries are out of circulation but I would recommend strongly if anyone is thinking of buying a button battery in the future that when the new type come onto the market, that you buy these ones. This will stop the deaths of toddlers who inadvertently pick up these shiny objects and swallow them, leading to them getting stuck in the oesophagus and then eroding through into the aorta and then death occurs within 2-6 hours after ingestion.
